Techniques
There are, in fact, many techniques that you can use when dealing with anxiety. You can try techniques that are preventative. For example, studies have shown that an unhealthy lifestyle may turn mild anxiety into major anxiety. Thus, healthy living may be a good idea – a proper, balanced diet will be helpful, as will a good night's sleep. Taking good care of the body will alleviate the negative symptoms of anxiety.
When actually experiencing anxiety, however, you can deal with the stress by controlling your breathing. Slow down your inhalation and exhalation consciously and make sure that you do it for at least one minute. For some, meditation is an excellent way to manage anxiety mainly because it allows them to not have better conscious control over their breathing, but it also helps them shift their thoughts away from stressful thoughts that perpetuate the anxious feelings. Meditation allows people to focus on outside stimuli and the inner workings of the body, which also allows better control over physical reactions.
Another technique to counteract anxiety would be to remind yourself that your stress and worry is just a physiological reaction, and there is nothing to really worry about. Believe that everything will be okay, and THEN do what you have to do. Or, take your mid off the stress by treating yourself to things you like.
There are other anxiety management techniques out there, and we will be posting them here too. Please check back for updates.
